Deck Waterproofing Twickenham Rugby Stadium
Waterproofing Twickenham Rugby Stadium was part of the refurbishment and extension project at the Home of English Rugby. Main Contractor SES Ltd contracted Newton Specialist Waterproofing Contractor Stonehouse Basements to apply Newton Acriflex Winter Liquid Waterproofing System to the slab above the L2 HV Switch rooms. One in the North East Stand, the other in the North West Stand. The system was specified and applied in order to fully protect the sensitive and expensive electrical equipment in the switch rooms from any leaks from the structure above.
Waterproofing the stadium involved the deck areas being primed with Newton Nuseal-LM and the joints in the deck areas were prepared with Newton angle joint reinforcing tape. Newton Acriflex Mesh was applied to exposed surfaces, followed by a roller applied coat of Acriflex Winterwaterproofing membrane. The first coat of Acriflex Winter acts as a gauge to ensure the correct coverage and specially designed ‘wings’ within the mesh floats it slightly off the deck surface. Once the first coat was dry the second coat of Acriflex Winter was roller applied to a smooth finish.
“The Acriflex Winter was successfully applied even in the confined site conditions and cold weather. The end result is a durable, completely waterproof and seamless coating which will prevent any water entering the switch room below” Richard Allen – Stonehouse Property Care
