Newton Race Day, Lingfield Park
– Christopher Newton, Chairman
It has been ten years or more since Newton’s entertained their Newton Specialist Basement Contractors to a day at the races and in that time the company has made huge advances in market share and product development – and of course moved to new and much larger premises at Tonbridge.
Lingfield Park was decided upon for the 2014 race day as it is well located near to good transport facilities and has adjacent a good hotel for those who have come from the far flung parts of British Isles. So sixty or so of us gathered on Tuesday 25th November in the main hospitality suite at Lingfield Park Race Course for a full card of horse racing over the jumps.
Learning How To Pick A Winner
A welcome drink (or three) prepared us for a short but very interesting talk by the chief commentator on the day’s proceedings and advise on how to pick a winner. Then on to the first race where I am pleased to say there were many smiling faces a to be seen of successful punters! Alas though, my son-in-law and Managing Director Warren Muschialli, and a few of our Newton Specialist Basement Contractors, managed to choose the horse which came last!
A substantial lunch was then served and enjoyed between races and visits to the bookmakers and Tote to place hopeful bets.
Newton Waterproofing Handicap Chase
The second race was the Newton Waterproofing Handicap Chase and I had to decide on the best turned out horse helped by Toby Champion, Aimee Goodes and Lucinda Muschialli. Toby and I let the Ladies decide on this. We felt our superior equine knowledge should not be allowed to sway them! Aimee in particular had done some thorough research into choosing the best, and spent much time assessing the horses coats, plaits and flanks!
An exciting race followed and we then went to present the prize to the winner. Lots of hand shaking and camera clicking all viewed on the big screen opposite the hospitality suite to I am sure much cheering and jeering from our guests who could laugh at us on the big screen!
More Wine, More Food, More Winners!
So the day continued with a further four races. More wine, More food, More winners! (For some, but not the Chairman I fear). The day ended with tea and further light refreshments.
I think all enjoyed the day and it was a good opportunity for our NSBC’s to network and exchange ideas. Those who had come far, and some not so far stayed at the adjacent Marriot hotel and were able to discuss technical problems with our sales and technical staff (that’s what they told me) and as ever the Newton team were the last to turn the lights off at 4am!
“Thanks for a great day out and an opportunity to meet like minded contractors and develop business relationships. All of the MacLennan staff who attended really enjoyed the event.” – Ian MacLennan, MacLennanUK
“We were invited to spend the day with the guys and girls of Newton Waterproofing, fellow NSBCs and other guests. The day proved to be a great mixture of networking, trying our luck on the horses and of course good food and drink. Thanks to all involved, already looking forward to next time!” –
