Christopher Newton – Chairman
My first experience of Newtons was visiting ‘The Works’ as they were called in Bermondsey in 1947 with my father. I joined the company in a junior capacity in 1963. This was not a success as my uncles who were running the business did not want me there so I ended up stoking the large coal-fired boiler to provide energy for the plant! I took sole control of Newtons in 1978 when I completely reorganised the company and introduced new products to replace the old ones. I developed a meshed membrane now known as Newlath and we were the first company in the UK to introduce a full tanking system with dimpled membranes. These changes were very successful and it was with great confidence and pleasure that I passed over the running of the company to my son-in-law Warren and my daughter Lucinda. They have together with their first-rate team of well-qualified and hard-working staff continued to build on this and well exceed my early efforts. Other than work I served 12 years in the Territorial Army, two years as a parish councillor, and 34 years as a Justice of the Peace in Central London, sitting at Bow Street and Horseferry Road courts. Together with my wife Jennifer our great pleasure is our family and particularly our delightful grandchildren, 4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.
Warren Muschialli – Managing Director
I have worked for Newton Waterproofing Systems for over 12 years, firstly as a technical manager and over the last 6 years as the Managing Director. We have a wonderful team of committed and talented people who are all passionate about our waterproofing business. Our portfolio of systems has grown significantly in my time and we continue to invest in new product development to provide our customers with quality products backed by full training and support. On a personal level I am an Aussie who has been living in the UK for 17 years and I have a wonderful wife (Lucinda! ) and four very feisty boys aged between 6 and 13. I love cricket and am the captain of our Sunday village cricket team, I also enjoy playing rock guitar and piano.
Lucinda Muschialli – Marketing Director
I have been the Marketing Director at Newton Waterproofing Systems for five years, but have worked for Newton many times in the past as I am Christopher Newton’s daughter! I met Warren when I was in Australia, having first seen him on an episode of Neighbours in 1994!! I have many years of experience in marketing, having headed up the Internal and Interactive Communications area of Credit Suisse Asset Management in London, and as marketing co-ordinator of Burlington Paintings art gallery in London. I have recently become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM). At Newtons, we have a great team, and a fantastic ethos where everyone works so hard, but has great fun at the same time! When I’m not working I love spending time with the family, drinking prosecco with friends and I have recently developed a mid-life crisis obsession with hula hooping!
David Hall – Finance Director
I joined the Newton Team 5 years ago as Director of Finance but over the years my role has primarily been that of General Manager. I trained at KPMG in their Financial Services department and was involved in the auditing of large investment banks such as Citi group, Jefferies and HSBC. That was until a chance encounter with the waterproofing Guru that is Mr Bucknell in a Tenerife airport bar as we waited for our delayed flight! I had not planned to be with the company this long but have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Newton’s and can’t imagine working with a better group of people both internally and the wider Newton family comprised of some excellent NSBC’s. Outside of work I am an ‘all the gear no idea’ kind of guy, I love trying new sports!
David Bucknell – Product Director
I have been involved with structural waterproofing since 1996, first as a regional manager for a national company and then as co-owner of a specialist waterproofing company based in Southern England. I formed my own business consulting on failed waterproofing and, before joining Newton Waterproofing Systems in 2004, I owned a company specialising in the supply of below-ground waterproofing products. I was on the committee for the re-write of BS8102:2009, the Code of Practice for Protection of Below Ground Structures Against Water from the Ground, and in 2014 was a member of the NHBC Structural Waterproofing Task Group writing the new NHBC standards for Structural Waterproofing. My role at Newton Waterproofing Systems is product and specification focussed which involves the development of new products and systems, in order to move our product range forwards alongside modern technological innovations. Happily married for over a quarter of a century I have two grown up kids and three cats. My free time is taken up by playing tennis, watching live and televised sports and tinkering with my mid-life crisis sports car.
Toby Champion CSSW CSRT – Commercial Director
I have been with Newtons for ten years now and as Commercial Director my job role is a multifaceted one in that I provide support and input in to the sales, technical, training and marketing teams as well as helping Warren with the day to day commercial aspects of the business. When I am not at work I am generally busy running my 2 children around to the various activities they are involved in. I have a sporting back ground which includes athletics, football, cricket and golf. I really enjoy socialising with family and friends and when we are entertaining at home I enjoy taking my turn in the kitchen to cook some good food and choose a good bottle of wine or two to wash it down with!
Richard Crossley CSSW WDS – Technical Director
I consider myself fortunate enough to be part of the Newton team, and have been since January 2014. I have 25 years’ experience in the design, manufacture and supply industry. The first ten years were spent in Aerospace while studying on day release and at night school; from an apprenticeship through various design qualifications to HND in Manufacture and Mechanical Engineering. In the new millennium I joined the construction industry, where I have gained some great skills and experience working within sales teams with various technical/specification Management roles. Predominantly employed within Structural Waterproofing markets I started my construction skills off at Ruberoid (now IKO group) before gaining vast experience in external weatherproofing with Saint Gobain Weber. Most notably I worked for numerous years as National Technical Manager for Cetco. I now enjoy working within a team of highly professional experts within the waterproofing industry. The Newton team really know their stuff and they certainly do enjoy working hard….and also playing hard! In my own time I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, walking in the beautiful British country side and holidaying at the seaside. Personally I love all outdoor pursuits especially mountain biking, mountain climbing and cross country running.
Stuart Tansey CSSW CSRT- Senior Technical Manager
Since leaving college, my entire career has been in waterproofing. I have worked on site as a waterproofing contractor where my experience of specifying and fitting the waterproofing products has been invaluable to me and Newton Waterproofing Systems. Since joining in 2006, my role in the company has developed to reflect the rapid growth in both turnover and product range and today as Senior Technical Manager my duties cover development and testing. I also head up the training we offer at Newtons, training new and existing customers on products new to our range as well as furthering knowledge on existing products. My colleagues tell me I am a problem solver, a friendly and resourceful person with a sound and optimistic outlook on all things in life. My ability to motivate and communicate well with clients of all backgrounds is ideal for the training room where it is so important that critical information is conveyed and understood. I am recently married to a wonderful person and have a young son as well as an older son from a previous relationship.
Aimee-Jayne Goodes CSSW – Technical Manager
With an Honours Degree in Architecture from Portsmouth University I am responsible for the drawn technical output from the Technical Team which involves one to one discussion and design with architects and engineers as well as updating our products technical drawings and details. As new and innovative products are introduced, my role is to integrate these into our drawing catalogue for publication to our customer base, our website and to FastTrackCad.com I have worked at Newton Waterproofing Systems since 2011 and have really enjoyed the steep learning curve that below ground waterproofing presents, one which my degree course prepared me for extremely well, and it is incredibly fulfilling to take a call, receive drawings by email and to fully specify a robust waterproofing design to BS8102:2009, knowing I was instrumental in providing the dry basement the client quite rightly insists upon. When I am not creating technical drawings using AutoCAD, I enjoy baking, walking the dog and running for charity!
Ben Fordham – Technical Manager
I have only recently joined Newton… again… having worked at the company once before for a total of 4 years in both a Technical and Sales capacity. I recently spent a year as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor at a large-volume house builder before I realised that I couldn’t stay away from the Newton group. They are a great bunch and I thoroughly enjoy working here.
Adam Smith – Technical Advisor
I have worked for Newton Waterproofing Systems since 2007 and over that time my job role has evolved from working in the warehouse to dealing with sales orders, and assisting customers with their waterproofing and damp proofing enquiries. The company has changed and grown quite dramatically in recent years and it has made working for Newton’s a challenging and rewarding experience. In my spare time I enjoy collecting American comics and can be seen swinging across the city skyline in spandex, punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent!
Clare Russell – Technical Advisor
I have degrees in Architecture and Building Surveying. My working life started at Shell, predominantly in computer-aided design and progressing to European Supply Agreement Manager. After ten years I moved to join my father in growing his direct electric heating company where I gained many years’ experience in technical sales. I am delighted to have joined the team at Newton Waterproofing Systems and am very much looking forward to getting up to speed with new products and working with customers to identify waterproofing solutions that best meet their site requirements. In my spare time I enjoy seeing friends, walking the dogs, keeping sheep and singing with my local Choral Society.
Reece Catt – Technical Advisor
I have recently joined the Newton Team having spent 6 years in the construction industry, the majority of which has been in the builder’s merchants sector. I am looking forward to integrating within the Technical team here at Newton and I am excited about the challenge ahead! Outside of work you can usually find me near a football match, either watching Crystal Palace FC as I am a lifelong fan, or coaching the beautiful game as I currently hold an FA license and run a junior team in the Sevenoaks area.
Rob Russell – Technical Advisor
After a previous career in catering, I am in the process of finishing my BA in Architectural Technology at Southampton Solent University and have just started working for Newton Waterproofing Systems on the technical team. I am looking forward to putting into practice the new skills I have learnt during my time at university, as well as embracing the steep learning curve ahead of me. I feel very fortunate to be welcomed into the team here and look forward to all the challenges and opportunities ahead of me, including becoming a chartered member of the CIAT which I hope will help me bring further skills to my role within the technical team.
Lucasz Grochowski – Training Assistant and Site Support
My working day involves supporting Stuart with training contractors and dealing with technical enquiries. Outside of the warehouse you can find me flying quadcopters, building models or at the gym. I’m from Krakow in Poland and studied geography at Jagiellonian University, the second oldest University in Europe.
Sarah Joyce – Financial Controller
I began working for Newton Waterproofing in 2007. My role as Financial Controller involves a wide range of tasks from purchasing, stock management, logistics and credit control. When not at work I like to watch movies, work out at the gym and spend time holidaying abroad.
James Hughes – Marketing Manager
I was fortunate enough to join Newton Waterproofing Systems in March 2015. My role is to be an incredibly varied and exciting one, supporting both Lucinda and the company in all things Marketing, and ensuring that Newton not only maintains but also expands upon it’s presence in the UK market as a leading expert and supplier of advanced waterproofing and damp proofing systems. Prior to joining Newton I graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2012 with a BA in English Literature and an MSc in Marketing, and have since spent two years in the global Marketing of specialist technical products for a leading manufacturer and supplier of automotive lubricants and chemicals. At the end of 2014 I also took a quick ‘career-break’ in order to backpack around the world for 4 months with my fiancée, before I’m forced to settle down.
I have a lifelong passion for rugby and will take any opportunity to get out on the pitch or watch a game. I also regularly take the opportunity to put myself through the wringer in various charity fundraising challenges, including anything from running Tough Mudders to walking all 84 miles of Hadrian’s Wall in just two days.
Kayleigh Streatfield – Marketing Executive
Having spent most of my Marketing career within the building and manufacturing industry, I had the opportunity to join Newton in July 2015 as a Marketing Contractor, working alongside James Hughes. Having had a varied career, starting out as a Marketing Assistant for James Villa Holidays, I worked my way up through the creative sector, including a brief spell as Studio Assistant in Cyprus, to a 6-year position as Creative Manager for building plastics manufacturer, FloPlast Ltd. At the beginning of 2015, I made the brave decision to go self-employed as a Freelance Designer & Copywriter, providing a range of creative solutions for businesses, both agency and client side. My new role with Newton will involve the redesigning of all marketing literature, as well as assisting James with various creative projects to help bring the company brand up to date.
Prior to joining Newton, I took time out to fulfil my ambition to travel around South America for a month, which allowed me to embark on some amazing adventures, from hiking up a volcano in Chile, to herding cattle ‘gaucho’ style on horseback in Uruguay. My spare time is spent in the company of family and friends, keeping fit and snapping away with my trusty camera.
James Newton – Marketing Advisor
I began working for Newtons first in 1990, when it was based in South London, and when both the product range and the size of the team were a fraction of what they are now ! Since 1998 I have lived in the West of Ireland, and pursued the careers of Counselling and Social Care Work (with adults with intellectual disabilities). I re-joined Newtons on a part time basis in 2014, processing and sending out Leads Logs, and I currently enjoy working as part of the dynamic teams that Newtons now is. One of my current roles is monitoring calls, and I am consistently impressed by the high standard of commitment and professionalism given by the Newtons team. I live in a beautiful place near the sea in South County Galway, with my wonderful wife, and our two teenage daughters. I enjoy playing piano (Classical and Jazz), Sea Kayaking. I also do Aikido, and am currently training for my black belt grade.
Ade Adeoye – Marketing Assistant
I started working at Newton Waterproofing Systems in March 2016. My job role as a Marketing Assistant is updating the website, planning and projecting ideas for visual content. I also support Lucinda and James with all things marketing. Prior to joining Newton, I graduated from Middlesex University in 2015 with a BSc in Multimedia Computing and embarked on a career path in Marketing. I’m very happy to be part of the team and look forward to learning more about the company
Antoinette Duffy – Sales Advisor
My Employment at Newton Waterproofing Systems began in October 2012 when the Company had just moved to Tonbridge from London. I had just moved from Ireland to a small village not so far away called Wrotham (pronounced Rootam). I had previously worked for a Global Publishing Company for 12 years and wondered how I would slot in with Newtons and Waterproofing. From day one, I was made to feel very welcome and it wasn’t long before I was in the swing of it, workwise and social wise with this great company. My day to day roles include sales and customer Care. I am the CPD (Continuous Professional Development) & Training Co-Ordinator. I also assist the Technical Team in booking travel/flights/hotels etc…Outside of work, I love to travel, dress up, sky dive (just once) and socialise.
Rebecca Woodley – Sales Advisor
I started working at Newton Waterproofing Systems in October 2012. As Sales Advisor I take calls from customers and process sales orders, I also order the office stationary, organise hospitality for clients, assist in coordinating training and carry out general administration for the office. Outside of work, I have a keen interest in fitness and I like to spend time with my family and friends and go out to dinner – and I can usually be found at a festival during the summer months!
Teri Stride – Sales and Logistics Co-ordinator
As a customer sales advisor and the logistics co-ordinator my role mainly consists of taking orders and then liaising with our courier company to ensure they reach the customers on time. As a relatively new member of the team I’m still learning the ropes but am enjoying my time here and the variety this role brings me. In my spare time I’m a keen gig go-er and veg grower!
Liam Newton – Sales Advisor
I joined Newton’s in 2012, having previously worked in the warehouse, picking orders and preparing stock. After quickly becoming a valued member of the team, I was fortunate enough to move into the office as Sales Advisor, taking calls and processing orders on Sage. Outside of Newton’s, I am a keen guitar enthusiast, having recently taken up lessons and enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. Though ‘Newton’ by name, this is actually a lucky coincidence.
Michelle Ward – Office Administrator
After 3 years in the new-build housing industry, I joined Newton in April 2015. As Office Administrator I have a very varied role from general office housekeeping to sorting out the office systems. Generally I am here to try to make everyone’s life that bit easier! Outside of work I like to spend time with my friends and family and love to visit new and exciting places. I am very happy to be part of the team and look forward to learning the business.
Tom Hogben- Warehouse
I joined Newtons in 2012 and I’d say the best thing about working for the company is having happy colleagues! My working day includes picking orders and packing stock. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family or getting a new tattoo. A sad fact about me is that I’m jealous of Dean Coster’s bushy beard, as I can’t grow my own.
Wiktor Daraz – Warehouse
In the warehouse my day-to-day role includes preparing stock, picking orders and packing. Due to my interest in woodwork I’ve also become the unofficial Newton warehouse carpenter, dealing with any and all of our carpentry requirements. The best things about working for Newton are its people and the friendly atmosphere, and I also take a great interest in the well thought-out technical solutions that we put together for customers. I’m originally from Krakow in Poland, and outside of the warehouse I really enjoy travelling and writing my own adventure fiction.
Stephen Farrant – Warehouse
I joined Newton as a part of the expanding warehouse team in August 2015, and have immediately begun to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that is created by all the friendly people who work here. My working days will generally involve picking orders, packing stock, and trying to grow a beard that will equal Warehouse Manager Dean’s. Outside of work, I’m a local guy who enjoys a bit of gaming, the great British outdoors, and course fishing, with my current biggest catch being a 44lb and 7oz monster!
Radoslaw Swietonski – Warehouse
I started working in the Newton warehouse in January 2016, so I’m the most recent addition to the team. However I’ve already found that the people here are a really nice bunch to work with. Previously I worked at Southern Salads, just round the corner from Newton, but I’m originally from the town of Nidzica in Poland. Outside of work I’m pretty interested in most sports, and I also enjoy a bit of gaming and bowling.
