Meet the Newton team

Meet the Newton team – a company dedicated to developing and improving the products, processes and systems of waterproofing.

Christopher Newton

Christopher Newton

Chairman

My first experience of ‘The Works’ was in 1947 with my father, and I joined the company in a junior capacity in 1963, stoking the large coal-fired boiler! I took sole control of Newtons in 1978, reorganising the company and introducing new products such as the meshed membrane ‘Newlath’, and the UK’s first full tanking system with dimpled membranes.

These changes were very successful and it was with great pleasure that I passed over the running of the company to my son-in-law Warren and my daughter Lucinda. Together with their team of well-qualified and hard-working staff they have continued to build and exceed my early efforts.

Warren Muschialli CSSW

Warren Muschialli CSSW

Managing Director

I’ve worked at Newton since 2002, firstly as a Technical Manager and since 2007 as the Managing Director. We have a wonderful team of committed and talented people who are all passionate about the business.

Our product portfolio has grown significantly in my time and we continue to invest in product development in order to provide our customers with quality products that are backed by the best training and support in the industry. I’m also an Aussie who’s been living in the UK for 17 years with wonderful wife Lucinda, and we have four feisty boys. I love cricket and am the captain of our Sunday village cricket team, and I also enjoy playing guitar and piano.

Lucinda Muschialli

Lucinda Muschialli

Director

I am now a Director at Newton Waterproofing Systems, having been the Marketing Director for 5 years previously and working for Newton many times over the years, as I am Christopher Newton’s daughter. I met Warren when I was in Australia, having first seen him on an episode of Neighbours in 1994! I have many years of experience in marketing and I have recently become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM).

At Newtons, we have a great team, and a fantastic ethos where everyone works so hard, but has great fun at the same time! When I’m not working I love spending time with the family, drinking prosecco with friends and I have recently developed a mid-life crisis obsession with hula hooping!

David Bucknell

David Bucknell CSSW

Regional Director - North

I first became involved with structural waterproofing in 1996 as a regional manager for a national company and then as a co-owner of a specialist waterproofing company based in the Southern England. Before joining Newton in 2004, I formed my own business consulting company on failed waterproofing and went on to own a company that specialised in suppling waterproofing products. Since joining the company, I have been on the committee for the re-write of BS8102:2009 and in 2014 I was a member of the NHBC Structural Waterproofing Task Group writing the new NHBC standards for Structural Waterproofing.

David Hall

David Hall

Finance Director

I joined the Newton Team in June 2008 as Director of Finance but over the years my role has primarily been that of General Manager. I trained at KPMG in their Financial Services department and was involved in the auditing of large investment banks such as Citi group, Jefferies and HSBC.

That was until a chance encounter with the waterproofing Guru that is Mr Bucknell in a Tenerife airport bar as we waited for our delayed flight! I had not planned to be with the company this long but have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Newton’s and can’t imagine working with a better group of people both internally and the wider Newton family comprised of some excellent NSBC’s.

Outside of work I am an ‘all the gear no idea’ kind of guy, I love trying new sports!

Toby Champion CSSW CSRT

Toby Champion CSSW CSRT

Regional Director - South

I have been with Newtons since April 2006 and as Commercial Director my job role is a multifaceted one in that I provide support and input in to the sales, technical, training and marketing teams as well as helping Warren with the day to day commercial aspects of the business.

When I am not at work I am generally busy running my 2 children around to the various activities they are involved in. I have a sporting background which includes athletics, football, cricket and golf. I really enjoy socialising with family and friends and when we are entertaining at home. I enjoy taking my turn in the kitchen to cook some good food and choose a good bottle of wine or two to wash it down with!

James Hughes

James Hughes

Marketing Director

I was fortunate to join Newton in 2015, and since then my role has been a varied and exciting one, ensuring that Newton expands on it’s presence in the UK market.

I have a BA in English Literature and an MSc in Marketing, as well as a lifelong passion for rugby.

I enjoy spending as much of my spare time as possible with my wife and my two young kids, and I also love travelling, charity fundraising challenges, running, and walking in the great Kent countryside with my dog.

Steve Watts CSSW

Steve Watts

Business Development Manager

My career started with a small family run waterproofing manufacturer where my role was sales office manager. After meeting my wife, I moved up north and joined a supplier of construction accessories, before moving into the distribution of specialist construction products. Now in 2021, 12 years later, I find myself in the wonderful and exciting world of Newton Waterproofing as Business Development Manager.

In my spare time it’s all about family, going for walks and enjoying the simple things in life. I have a love of sport particularly football and cricket and enjoy watching my son play. I also coach his football team. We are also season ticket holders of the mighty Leeds United.

Roman Zurek

Roman Zurek

Branch Manager (Leeds)

After leaving school at 18, I signed up and joined the Royal Navy as an Aircraft Engineer specialising on the Lynx MK3 & MK8 aircraft.

During my time, I served 18 months on HMS Ark Royal and 2 years on 815 squadron at RNAS Yeovilton amongst others.
I represented the Navy at football but due to a bad knee injury sustained during a match, I was later discharged from the navy after 6 ½ great years (mostly).

After leaving the Navy, I joined SIG as an HGV driver which was the start of my journey in this industry. From driving I became warehouse manager and then moved into stock control and purchasing before finishing up in the sales team. A few years later I moved to a specialist distributor of construction chemicals where I enjoyed 5 great years. In 2022 I joined  Newtons, and hope my past experience will have a positive impact on an already great company.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing football, golf and spending time with my wife Angela and 4 kids. We also have a Cockerpoo called Pip who I love to get out on long walks most evenings and weekends.

Ben-L

Ben Longman CSSW

Business Development and Operations Manager

I joined the construction accessories industry in 2012 working for a national supplier before moving to a specialist construction chemicals distributor in 2015.

In 2021 after six great years, I joined the Newton Waterproofing team as Sales Manager.

I spend my spare time with my wife and daughter at our allotments, getting the guitar out on occasion, watching football with my family, and of course enjoying a few ciders & BBQs along the way. Lovely job.

Aimee-Jayne Goodes CSSW

Aimee-Jayne Goodes CSSW

Design Manager

I have worked at Newton Waterproofing Systems since 2011 and have enjoyed the steep learning curve that ground waterproofing presents, one which my degree course prepared me for extremely well. With my Honours Degree in Architecture from Portsmouth University, I am responsible for the drawn technical output from the Technical Team. This involves one-to-one discussion and design with architects and engineers as well as updating our products technical drawings and details.

It is incredibly fulfilling to take a call, receive drawings by email and to fully specify a robust waterproofing design to BS8102:2022, knowing I was instrumental in providing a dry basement for the client. When I am not hard at working creating technical drawings using AutoCAD, I enjoy baking, walking the dog and running for charity.

Gary Turner CSSW CSRT

Gary Turner CSSW CSRT

Technical Site Services Manager

After leaving school in 1985, I joined a local damp and timber company. After 8 years as an operative, I qualified as a surveyor. In 2000 I joined another local company as the senior surveyor, where I had a good 22 years. I also hold both the CSSW and CSRT qualifications.

After 37 years on the contracting side of the remedial industry, the time was right to make a change. Waterproofing has been the main focus of my work for many years and having used Newton Waterproofing products for over 15 years and knowing the team well, It was an easy decision to make when the opportunity arose to join their technical site services team.

I have recently retired from playing veterans football and now enjoy distance running, especially on the trails. I like to spend time watching films, art and walking. I’m also a big music fan and enjoy visiting small venues to see new bands and artists.

Dan Gilmour CSSW

Dan Gilmour CSSW

Senior Technical Manager

When I left school, I started working with a small family run building company as a labourer and learning various trades in the industry, where I soon progressed on to running my own jobs.

After ten years I decided to take some time out and went travelling around the world for nearly two years, meeting some great people and experiencing many different cultures. On my return I met my wonderful wife and we now have two fantastic children.

I also then spent 15 years working for a timber and damp proofing company and gained my CSSW qualification this year. Although I only joined Newton in November 2016 as a Technical Manager, luckily, I’ve known the guys here for many years.

Richard Buttrey Pump Training and Development Manager

Richard Buttrey

Pump Training & Development Manager

I’ve worked within the electrical industry since 2010, initially within general contracting before specialising in building automation systems for high-end residential properties.

I took a sidestep into the water industry as a field-based electrical and ICA tech, giving me a deep knowledge of the maintenance, installation and specification of pump systems in multiple types of sites and a vast array of sizes.

My role within Newton will allow me to combine these skills as we develop and advance our pump solutions.

Outside of work I’m kept busy by ferrying around my two daughters. When I can get some time away from that I’m normally found either by the side of a football pitch watching my local non-league side Hastings United, or on a pitch trying to keep my playing career going for as long as possible!

My day-to-day roles include sales and customer Care. I also assist the Technical Team in booking travel/flights/hotels etc… And I motivate the Newton team with Chocolate Freddos when necessary! Outside of work, I love to travel, dress up, sky dive (just once) and socialise.

I re-joined Newtons on a part time basis in 2014, processing and sending out Leads Logs, and I currently enjoy working as part of the dynamic teams that Newtons now is.
