Our advanced range of gas protection materials allows the design and installation of effective and robust Type A, B & C waterproofing systems. From small domestic projects through to the largest residential developments, commercial buildings and civil projects, the Newton name is synonymous with superior technical design, superior materials and expert installation.
Although all three are dangerous ground gasses, radon to both new and existing properties falls under the auspices of BR211-2023, whilst methane and carbon dioxide are covered by BS EN 8485 for new builds and under CIRIA 795 for existing properties. Generally, membranes providing protection against these ground gasses are referred to as radon membranes and gas membranes.
Our advanced range of radon and gas membranes allows the design and installation of effective and robust Type A, B & C waterproofing systems. From small domestic projects through to the largest residential developments, commercial buildings and civil projects, the Newton name is synonymous with superior technical design, superior materials, and expert installation.
Effective Gas Protection Systems
Protecting a building interior from ground gas penetration is an essential part of health and safety regulations. At Newton Waterproofing, our gas membranes and gas barriers create an effective protective layer against gas infiltration.
Our gas protection products are effective at stopping various naturally occurring gases. This includes ground gases such as Carbon Dioxide and Methane, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) such as Benzene, Toluene, Chlorinated Solvents, and Ethers. Newton also has a membrane that is certified as an effective barrier to Radon gas.
Radon Gas Protection
Radon is a colourless, odourless and naturally occurring radioactive gas that, in excessive quantities, has direct links to the development of lung cancer. Small levels of Radon are everywhere, but certain areas of the UK are at higher risk than others, and any below-ground area that is regularly used as a habitable space is deemed ‘at risk’ from Radon.
Regardless of whether your property is residential or commercial, it is important to obtain a Radon Risk Report to find out whether it is in a high radon area and, if it is, then a test must be undertaken.
Newton HydroBond 109-LM is a Radon certified rubber waterproofing membrane. It is suitable for use with all below ground and earth-retaining structures and provides the following benefits:
- High Radon gas resistance
- Non-flammable – no VOCs
- Odourless, non-toxic, and solvent free
- Comprehensive vapour barrier
- Excellent elasticity with no shrinkage
Ground Gas and Vapour Mitigation
Systems such as the Newton PAC-500 also provide comprehensive protection against gas and vapour penetration. The patented system combines the Newton CDM System for cavity drain waterproofing with a positive pressure air delivery system to protect against gas. The membranes used also have third party accreditation for radon permeability.
Gas protection systems are an integral part of a below-ground building’s integrity. Our range of gas resistant products are fully accredited and tested for use in controlled environments and should always be installed by a trained professional to ensure safety levels are met.
