Three of the Newton team have recently gained two of the highest industry qualifications from the leading training provider in the UK, the Property Care Association (PCA).

Our star pupils, Adam Smith and David Bucknell have both successfully passed their Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) exams, whilst Ben Fordham has qualified as a Waterproofing Design Specialist (WDS), which is the highest waterproofing accreditation offered by the PCA.

Adam Smith – an experienced Technical Advisor at Newton Waterproofing Systems – and David Bucknell – Product Director at Newton with over 20 years of experience in the industry – both undertook the requisite 3-day training course and examinations for CSSW accreditation in late 2018 and received the good news that they had successfully passed earlier on this year.

Nationally recognised, the CSSW qualification is for individuals who are not only involved in diagnosing problems with water entering structures below ground, but who are also recommending design solutions. The intensive course covers the principals of structural waterproofing, including waterproofing design, anticipated defects and design philosophy, as well as Type A, B and C systems in accordance with BS 8102:2009 – Code of Practice for the Protection of Below-Ground Structures Against Water from the Ground. To become certified, Adam and David participated in a 2.5 hour written exam, a 20-minute oral exam and a 2 hour Legal and Heath & Safety written exam.

Ben Fordham, Technical Manager at Newton and newly qualified Waterproofing Design Specialist, was required to demonstrate his thorough understanding in all aspects of BS 8102:2009 and all Types of waterproofing, building construction and waterproofing techniques, diagnostic investigation and problem solving, report writing, diagram drawing and details, specification details, and the products and techniques commonly used in waterproofing. Ben was also required to have a minimum of 5 years site experience and already possess a CSSW qualification in order to obtain the WDS certification.

Now a qualified WDS member, Ben’s name and level of expertise can be found on the WDS Register which the leaders of design teams can access via the PCA website.

This register helps Architects and Building Developers to single out those with the appropriate skills and knowledge who can be trusted to give the correct information on designing Structural Waterproofing schemes for below ground projects.

Already valuable members of the Newton family, Adam, Ben and David have added to the already widely accredited and highly qualified team here at Newton. Moreover, Adam and Ben are part of the impressively qualified Technical team that possess an awesome 11 CSSW accredited staff, two Certified Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) qualified staff and two members of staff on the WDS Register, as well as over 100 years of experience in the waterproofing industry.
