As the first and only service of its kind in the waterproofing industry, the multi-award winning membrane recycling scheme is designed to reduce the amount of waste plastic sent to landfill from waterproofing projects. Run in collaboration with Newton Specialist Basement Contractors (NSBCs), off-cuts of HDPE waterproofing membrane are actively collected from site and recycled to become new products in the construction industry.

Completely closed-loop, the recycling collection bags are delivered to site by Newton delivery drivers along with the first product delivery and are collected from site on the back-load once filled with waste plastic membrane, therefore avoiding any extra carbon emissions.

A team of dedicated Newtonites are tasked with keeping the service running smoothly, including Warehouse Operative Nathan Conroy, and Recycling Officer Peter Watson (pictured above standing either side of Christopher Newton, Chairman at Newton Waterproofing). Both Nathan and Peter work hard to process all the waste membrane, ensuring it is chipped into small granules and packaged up ready to be collected by a national recycler for reprocessing and reusing.

Since the scheme launched in March 2017, Newton have successfully prevented 13.28 tonnes of plastic from going to landfill and 15.261 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere. This also saves enough energy to make over 2 million mugs of tea!
