Newton Waterproofing has recently become the first UK waterproofing supplier to have an entire waterproofing solution, the Newton System 500 for below-ground cavity drain waterproofing, certified to BES 6001 by BRE Global.
The BES 6001 standard from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) is a means of demonstrating, via independent, third-party certification, that products approved by the scheme have been responsibly sourced.
What is the BES 6001 certification?
As an increasingly important and valuable standard for customers looking to procure building products, the BES 6001 certification is a voluntary process and demonstrates a supplier’s commitment to reducing the environmental and societal impacts of their construction products, through sound environmental credentials, social awareness, and ethical practices.
To meet the standard, Newton had to satisfy certain elements within each of the mains areas of organisational management, supply chain management, and environmental and social responsibility management. As of the 14th of December 2020, Newton set a new standard in UK waterproofing by becoming the first supplier to have an entire waterproofing solution certified to BES 6001.

Consequently, as well as being a comprehensive and maintainable ‘Type C’ waterproofing system, thanks to our comprehensive management systems, Newton System 500 is now also the only Type C waterproofing system available from a UK supplier with BES 6001 certification that will also contribute towards The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
The certification can be added to Newton’s long list of environmental/sustainability memberships and accreditations already held, including ISO 14001, Constructionline Gold, the Supply Chain Sustainability School, the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), and the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
